The three “Main Duties” of a Plastun - Scout
The three Main Duties of a Ukrainian Scout (“Plastun”) embodies the ideals of the Ukrainian Scouting Organization they are:
- To be faithful to God and the Ukraine.
- To help others.
- To be disciplined and obey the Scout Laws.
The “Scout Laws” of the Ukrainian Scout
- Trustworthy.
- Conscientious.
- Punctual.
- Not wasteful.
- Just and fair.
- Courteous.
- Helpful and kind.
- Controls his emotions.
- Productive.
- Disciplined.
- Make good use of their time and resources.
- Lead a healthy lifestyle.
- Cares about beauty.
- Always optimistic.
The Plast Greeting
The universal Scout greeting is "Be Prepared" which in Ukrainian sounds "Hotooys." This greeting is used today by the Ukrainian Cub Scouts "Novaky".
But the Ukrainian Scouts have another greeting "SKOB", which is used by Scouts "Yunaky" and elder Plast members.
The word "SKOB" is direct translation of an eagle species "Osprey", which inhabits the wide steppes of Ukraine.
The word "SKOB" - an acronym of four Ukrainian words:
Sylno (Strongly).
Krasno (Beautifully).
Oberezhno (Carefully).
Bystro (Speedily).
Ukrainian Scouts - Plastuny greet each other on any Plast activities with the word "SKOB" and put their right hand up with three middle fingers straightened signifying the three main duties of a Ukrainian Scout - Plastun.
In their everyday life a Scout - Past members greet each other by shaking their left hand. This is a symbol of being a member of Scout movement all over the world.
